Benefits of Keeping a Journal

Why do we keep a journal?

All great literature is one of two stories; a man goes on a journey or a stranger comes to town. ― Leo Tolstoy

Diary is a personal journey towards ourselves. When people want to unburden one’s heart and share their happiness and sadness, they can share with the diary which is the best friend. We tell everything to our diary. We love our diary. That’s why we usually address our diary as “Dear Diary”. We tell our wonderful story as sincerely. Our diary includes our thoughts, our dreams and especially our emotions. It contains our memories, our friends, what we eat, what we drink, what the places we visit, our goals, our ideals, briefly all the details about our lives. Thus, all the memories we recorded on our journey are saved from being lost.

Journal is our memories

Journal gives us the opportunity to know ourselves. It enables us to see which stages we pass and our progress. Our journal provides the opportunity to observe our lives backwards.

Keeping a diary is a way to say to our brain “this is important to me.” like the sentences we highlight while reading a book. Every detail which we live in is important to us and writing things that are significant makes it easier for us to remember. So, our memories are not lost. Isn’t it great that our memories which are telling don’t disappear? After all, they have been said, “words fly away, writings remain.”

What are the benefits of keeping a diary every day?

Writing is another powerful way to sharpen the mental saw. Keeping a journal of our thoughts, experiences, insights, and learnings promote mental clarity, exactness, and context. Writing good letters — communicating on the deeper level of thoughts, feelings, and ideas rather than on the shallow, superficial level of events — also affects our ability to think clearly, to reason accurately, and to be understood effectively. — Stephen R.Covey

Journaling;

  • Allows us to see the progress of our lives.
  • Enables us to remember what we are happy about, what we are upset about, our attitudes and our feelings.
  • Records our dreams and track of theirs.
  • Improves creative thinking.
  • Helps us improve our vocabulary and thus express ourselves better.
  • Changes our habits. Gains us good habits, helps us get rid of bad habits.
  • Helps us to see our goals and wishes and to realize them.
  • Finally, helps reduce stress. In the fast flow of life, it allows you to stand and relax calmly.

Classifying the diaries

The best thing would be to write down events from day to day. Keep a diary to see clearly–let none of the nuances or small happenings escape even though they might seem to mean nothing. And above all, classify them. I must tell how I see this table, this street, the people, my packet of tobacco since those are the things which have changed. I must determine the exact extent and nature of this change.   ― Jean-Paul Sartre, in ‘Nausea’

While we keep a diary, we can buy a notebook and give it a name. For example, 2018 Winter Season. Thus, we can classify our diaries. When we want to open and read later, this naming makes our job easier and enables us to find the memories that we want to reach easily. It helps us to organize information in a meaningful way and to reach information more quickly with the help of categories.

Classifying has always been a method that facilitates our work while looking for information. When we want to go back in our memories and take a stroll in our memories, it helps us to find the way easily.

This work reveals a type of poetic mood and everyone would easily be attracted by it.
Leonardo Da Vinci came to be in the Florentine
Republic on April 15th, 1452. The beginning of Leonardo’s life was
dedicated to art and painting in particular.
